OK this band cannot be described as new or fresh any more but the time I did catch them live a few years back and they were very much worth the trip I made to see them.

This Parisian band consist of three core members plus a number of guest musicians when they play live. Their music style is tango but with elements of electronic and sampled material that gives it a more contemporary edge and as you would expect with Parisian bands from the late nineties, their music is stylish and polished.

Their second album, “La Revancha del Tango”, was released in 2001 and brought them very much into the spotlight of popular music. When I saw them live the music moved from works of cinematic beauty to dope beats and dub. Towards the end of the show when they were scratching in samples of “Sound of Da Police” by KRS One the show took on a club like atmosphere. Their latest album, ‘Lunático’, from 2006 is more traditional and was recorded with a 15 piece tango orchestra in Buenos Aires so it will be interesting to see where they will go with this live set.

They are playing in Amsterdam as part of their “Exclusive” tour. Well at 28 euro a ticket on a Sunday night it may certainly well be.

Interesting stuff. If you haven’t yet, you should check out Beirut. I’m a fan of their Gulag Orkestar for its weird blend of well, imiagne David Byrne conducting a band of gypsy mariachis. But you’d probably like The Flying Cup Club better, for all the French chanson influences. Plus: euphonium!Good luck with the book!

Oh, it’s so hard to dance tango!! My Jack and I tried to learn last time we were in Buenos Aires. We went to several plaecs where they teach tango, but the best place everto watch real people dance real tango is at San Telmo. There they have many “vintage stores” and once a week (every sunday) there’s this huge outdoors market where theysell everykind of vintage stuff and in the middle of the market there’s a public square where people gather to dance… I’ll send some pics through Ina so you can understand what I’m saying. It’s wonderfull! I hope we can bring you bitties down here and we can “strech” the trip to Buenos Aires… oh, what a dream, that would be great, wouldn’t it?!
