Voicst, South African slang meaning “manic energy”, are a hot pop rock band from Amsterdam and they happen to be friends of mine so I am going to plug their gig for them. This genre of music is not normally on my playlist but I went to see them live and they played a great show.
At core the band is a three piece ensemble but for their latest album they collaborated with an electronic music producer and this adds another dimension to their sound. For the live show you can expect a three piece horn section as well as phat electronic sounds and beats in places. One of the things that I liked best about their live gig is that their drummer, Joppe Molenaar, sits as the center of the band and beats out the rhythm with all the fever and passion of a modern day Keith Moon.
After their last sold out show in the Melkweg, Voicst are back to play in the Paradiso on October 11.
