Back in nineties and early part of this century we were treated to lots of great hip hop gigs with Blackalicious featuring the amazingly talented MC Gift of Gab. I’ve been wondering where these guys went to as there’s not been a release from this group since 2005.
Well Gift of Gab is back as part of The Mighty Underdogs on Def Jux records. The group, who are billed as a hip hop supergroup, also features MC Lateef the Truth Speaker of Latyrx and producer Headnodic of the Crown City Rockers. The debut album was released at the end of last year to mostly positive reviews, though I have to admit that I’ve not heard it yet. It features lots of guests such as MF DOOM, DJ Shadow, Mr. Lif and Akrobatik of The Perceptionists, Tha Alkaholiks’ Tash, Jurassic 5’s Chali 2na, and Julian and Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley.
