The Gaslamp Killer @ Trouw 2009

This weekend the Viral Radio festival brings nice treats for music lovers in the Netherlands. This bijou festival runs over two days in two different venues in Amsterdam and features artists from today’s most cutting edge music labels. Its interesting to see that all of the visiting musicians are from either California or London which makes it like the 60’s again with the leading musical acts based both sides of the pond (think Captain Beefheart to The Doors, Pink Floyd to Hendrix). Then California was an inception point for psychedelic music and now Beats & bass music has reabsorbed this into a new musical form. Behold the new Beat Generatiion!

Day one of the festival kicks off in the club Trouw with two rooms of music. On the main stage is the Gaslamp Killer (Brainfeeder - Los Angeles), Gonjasufi (WARP - San Diego
), Aardvarck (Rednose Distrikt - Amsterdam) and Juha (Viral Radio - Amsterdam) .

In the basement is Lockdown featuring Ikonika (Hyperdub - London), LD (Hyperdub - London),  Cinnaman (Viral Radio- Amsterdam) & Plus (Sonic Warfare - Amsterdam)

Day two is in the Bimhuis and features Ras G (Brainfeeder - Los Angeles), Darkstar  (Hyperdub - London), Knalpot (Eat Concrete - Amsterdam), Juha & Cinnaman

With so many great artists at the festival it would result in a very long post to cover them all in detail so these are some of our top picks just from day one:

Gonjasufi - His debut album that was released on Warp records this year was poduced by the Gaslamp Killer and Flying Lotus. Its a mystical smörgåsbord of psychedelic delights. Check out this live footage to give you a hint of what’s to com (please excuse the dodgy audio quality).

The Gaslamp Killer - Every time I’ve seen this guy play he’s destroyed the dance-floor with his genre defying set. Expect everything from full on floorshaking dubstep & beats to psychedelic rock, hip-hop and electronica. This is a video from the Sonar festival last year.

A two day ticket for the festival is just 19 euro. A single day tickets for day one is 13 to 17 euro depending if you buy them on pre-sale or not. Tickets for day two are 14 euro.
